RESA social work

We have always supported the view that the opinion of our residents counts for much and is of great value, especially when conducive to helping others.

Each year, RESA carries out a survey on the degree of satisfaction among those staying at the residence halls. In the last academic year (2008-2009), we pledged to donate 1.5€ for each survey answered to two non-profit organisations: Intermon Oxfam and La Casa de los Xuclis (The House of the “Xuclis”).

Intermon Oxfam has been fighting against poverty and hunger for over 50 years, trying to change the world and make it a better place to live in. Like them, we believe that the best way to help people from the poorest countries is trying to make them self-sufficient. For this reason, the donation will be reserved for acquiring resources for training, agriculture, stockbreeding, etc. A total of 1,582.50 € to participate in the more than 500 projects developed by the NGO.

La casa de los Xuklis is a project of the Fundació Privada de Nenes i Nens amb Càncer [Private Foundation of Boys and Girls with cancer], and its objective is a very special one: the construction of a home for those families of cancerous children that want to go to Barcelona for a treatment and for hospitalisation.

This initiative, promoted by the Associació de Familiars i Amics de Nens Oncològics de Catalunya [Association of Relatives and Friends of Oncological Children of Catalonia] ( AFANOC), will start functioning in 2010 at the venue of the Llars Mundet of the Diputación de Barcelona. It will offer 25 rooms that will cover the new family needs and minimise the emotional impact and feeling of abandonment of everyday life. These are very important factors for creating a positive family environment, as well as basic for curing the patient.

RESA’s involvement in the project goes beyond a mere economic contribution, (thanks to the support our residents, the association will receive a donation of 3,226.50 €), for it also offers legal and financial advice to the Fundació in the task of obtaining helps and subsidies for building the La casa de los Xuclis.
