1. Can I choose a room? You can specify your preferences and choose the type of room, but we choose them ourselves according to the list of place selections and the preferences marked in the application file.
2. Does the residence hall provide us with the sheets and towels? If you intend to do a full-year or intermediate stay, the residence hall does not provide them and you will have to bring your own, but if you prefer, you can hire this extra service when applying for the place, as is indicated on the advance registration application form.
For daily stays (days and/or weeks), the cleaning and delivery of sheets and towels are included in the price.
3. Is there a telephone, TV and DTTV in the room? All the rooms have their own telephone connected to the building switchboard, allowing direct access to the telephone network. All incoming calls and calls between rooms within the building are free of charge. In order to make calls to the outside of the building, the resident will have to have gone to the administration office and deposited what amount he/she has deemed convenient in his/her personal account (the minimum being 5€).Only in the double space rooms is there a TV set but all the rooms have TV antenna connection and a DTTV antenna will soon be installed in the building.
4. May I take a television and Hi-Fi to the room? Yes, you may bring your own radio, TV or audiovisual equipments into the room (one single appliance of each type per person), but they may only be listened to while wearing earphones or at a volume one’s roommate or neighbouring resident may not hear.
5. Do the rooms have a microwave oven? No, but you can bring one if you want.
6. May I take the RESA furniture I do not intend to use out of the room? No, the state of the room may not be altered and you may not replace RESA furniture with your own.
7. Is there a Wi-Fi connection? No, we have a broadband connection at the residence hall. You can have Internet access in your room.
8. Is there a printer in the computer room? Yes, there is a printer for academic purposes in the computer room.
9. Is there a canteen in the residence hall? Since all the rooms are equipped with their own kitchen, we do not have a canteen service.
10. Is there any room cleaning service? For year and intermediate stays, the cleaning of the rooms is an optional service that is not included in the monthly fee and which you may hire separately.
However, if you are staying at the residence hall for a few days, the cleaning and replacement of towels and sheets will be included in the price.
11. Is there a waste collection service? No, each resident must take out his/her own waste to the containers outside the residence hall. Waste bags must never be left in the corridors of the rooms.
12. Does the residence hall close during the holiday periods? No, it will remain open all year long.
13. On which dates and at what times may one enter the residence hall once I’ve been admitted? Any time starting the day in which the contract period begins, giving due notice to management by telephone or e-mail. Admission may take place between Monday and Friday during working hours, from 9 am to 7 pm.
Is this possible at weekends? No.
14. May I stay at the residence hall during the Christmas and Easter holidays? Since the residence does not close anytime during the year, you are able to stay at any time during your contract period.
And during the Summer holidays? If you are interested in staying during the Summer you should request a 12 month contract. We can assure you the place provided you inform us before the end of December. If you do it later than December then it’s based on the availability of the room. The months of Summer are paid in advance, apportioned in the months of January to June. If you change your mind after paying for the Summer months we cannot refund your payment.
15. What is the cut-off mark for entering the residence hall? The mark cut-off varies from one year to the next, depending on the number of free places and the marks we receive in the registrations. We are unable to give accurate orientation regarding this matter.
16. May a friend come over to the residence hall to study or eat?? Yes, always under your responsibility. During the day visitors can come provided they are accompanied every moment with a resident. After midnight, nobody is permitted to be on the residence that isn’t a resident themself. And may relatives or friends stay overnight in my room? The rooms cannot be filled with residents that aren’t under the condition of the residence. They need exclusive authorization to be on the property with a maximum of 7 days by contract as well as paying the rate pertaining to the extra bed. Nevertheless, you can consult the director to explain each case. Keep in mind though; to bring someone without authorization from the personnel of the residence can possibly result in expulsion.
17. Does the residence hall have any place where I may leave things during the summer holidays?? No, upon finishing your contract you are to completely remove your things from the residence. They do not want to be held responsible for lost or deteriorated things once the room keys are returned.
18. Are there any timetables for entering and leaving? The residence hall is open 24 hours a day, so there is no established timetable. Every resident will have a key to access the building and his/her room.
Does the residence hall close at any time? No, it will remain open all year long.
19. Do I have to deliver the key every time I leave the residence hall or at weekends? No, you may take it with you, but you may also leave it at reception if you want.
20. Are there university canteens near the residence hall? There is a university canteen in the university, 5 minutes from the residence hall.
21. Is the residence hall well connected with the bus station and the train station? Yes, it is well connected by bus and underground.
22. Are there any sports centres nearby? There is a municipal gym near the Estació del Nord and some privates gyms closed to residence hall .
23. Are there any supermarkets near the residence hall? There are several supermarkets near the residence hall: Mercadona, Supersol...
24. Where must I go if I need health care? The nearest health centre is Villa Olímpica, the Hospital del Mar is near too (15 minutes by bus).
25. Where is the nearest library? The Pompeu Fabra University Library is 5-minute from the residence hall.
26. I’m a foreigner and have no current account number in Spain. How can I open an account from where I am? When you arrive at the residence hall, we’ll tell you about the nearby banks where you can open a current account.
27. Does the monthly fee include everything? The monthly fee includes the monthly rent (accommodation), the fixed telephone quota, the computer connection with Internet access (with the limitations of the provider company and the rules of use), the TV antenna, the satellite receiver and the use of the common areas and VAT. It does not include water and electricity consumption or the hiring of optional services (cleaning of the room and delivery of sheets and towels), along with the telephone calls, which will be paid for separately.
28. Once I leave the residence hall, how long will it take for the guarantee deposit to be returned? The guarantee deposit will be returned two months after the period of stay at the residence hall has finished .
29. May I register at the residence hall if I’m not going to study at the Pompeu Fabra University ? No, this residence hall is only for accommodating students from the Pompeu Fabra University.
30. Can you guarantee that I will have a place at the residence hall if I fill in the advance resgistration form and I pay for the registration within the term specified? No, a selection process is needed, made on the basis of criteria given us by the university each year, and the list of persons admitted will be published in August at this website.
31. If I have made the advance registration application and have been admitted, will I be returned the registration payment if I cancel the application? No, the registration payment will only be returned in the events especified at the registration conditions.
32. What if I should leave the residence hall mid-year and I do not stay for the full 9.5 months (full academic year)? If it is cancelled before the last contract day, one will lose the two-month guarantee deposit, as web as the payment for the month in course.
33. How will I know that I have been admitted? A list of those persons admitted and not admitted will be published in the website of RESA. If you are admitted, you will receive the letter of acceptance during the first days of August, along with the access codes to the users zone of the RESA website, for you to accept the accommodation contract online. In order to definitively formalise your booking, it is essential that you accept the contract online and send the documentation requested in the acceptance letter before the end of August.
34. How does the selection process work? At the residence hall, we arrange the advance registrations into three groups, in accordance with the criteria of the UPF:
The list is elaborated according to the places available for each group and we send it to the UPF, which then verifies that all the names on the list belong to the university and gives its approval to the definitive list.
35. How are the monthly fees paid? By direct debit payment between the 1 and 5 of each month.
36. What if I should not have the university entrance examination marks at the moment of applying for the place? It will not be necessary to send them at the same time as your advance registration form. You can send them when you pay for registration, But it is essential that, when you are given the marks bulletin of the university entrance examinations (in the month of June) you send it to us, and call us to verify that we have received it. You must take into account that, if you do not send us the marks, your application will be eliminated, and you will therefore not be admitted to the residence hall.
37. If I do not pass the June university entrance examinations, can I still apply for a place in the residence hall? No. Only those who have passed in June may register at the residence hall.
38. Is the distance from one’s family home take into account when it comes to granting the places? No, the admission criteria are those established in the advance registration form.
39. If I have a brother or sister who is already a resident, will I be given priority to gain access to a place? We try to favour family grouping, which means that if you have a brother/sister who is currently staying at our residence hall, you will directly obtain you own place.
40. Is there a discount for large families or any other concept? No, the prices are the same for all residents.
41. I have requested my academic records to be transferred and will not have my admission to the UPF on time. Will I still be able to gain admittance to the residence hall? No. It is essential to have been admitted to the UPF before the July registration process.
42. The formalisation of the booking, once I have been admitted, requires the university registration. If it is impossible for me to gain the registration until September, will I still be able to maintain the place at the residence hall? Being given a place absolutely requires having been admitted to the university in June. In the event of your being a UPF student who is still waiting for the results of the September exams, you will be able to take your place before giving us the registration, but if you decide to quit your studies at that university, then you will have to leave the residence hall.
43.In addition to the University Entrance Exam, is any consideration given to the academic record, other university studies, etc...? No, in the interests of unifying criteria, we only take the University Entrance Exams into account.
44. What are my possibilities of entering the residence hall if I am not in the list of admitted persons? Due to the selection process, it is unlikely that someone who has been admitted will turn down his/her place since demand is very high.
45. May I carry out the registration after the deadline and add myself to the waiting list? No. You will have to wait until the beginning of October, when the waiting list of registrations made within the term is no longer valid and we open a new one.
46. Will the waiting list remain throughout the whole year? The waiting list, which is a result of the registration period, will be annulled in the first days of October when we start to prepare the return of the registration fees. If you want to remain in the waiting list beyond this period, you will have to duly convey this to us.
47. May I register at the two residence halls of the UPF? No, you will have to choose one of them. If you make two registrations, we shall annul your applications and penalise you with the registration fees.
48. Do we have to include our credit card data in the booking? Yes, this is essential for the purposes of guaranteeing the booking and for covering possible penalties (annulments made with a term of less than 24 hours before the day of entering and damages to the facilities and goods of the residence hall).
