1. Can I choose a room? You may indicate your preferences, but we choose them ourselves according to the list of place selections and the preferences marked in the application file. Existing residents will be given priority over new ones.
2. Does the residence hall provide us with the sheets and towels? If you intend to do a full-year or intermediate stay, the residence hall does not provide them and you will have to bring your own, but if you prefer, you can hire this extra service when applying for the place, as is indicated on the advance registration application form.
For daily stays (days and/or weeks), the cleaning and delivery of sheets and towels are included in the price.
3. Is there a telephone, TV and DTTV in the room? All the rooms have their own telephone connected to the building switchboard, allowing direct access to the telephone network. All incoming calls and calls between rooms within the building are free of charge. In order to make calls to the outside of the building, the resident will have to have gone to the administration office and deposited what amount he found convenient in his/her personal account (at a minimum of 5€). All the rooms have TV antenna connection but there is no DTTV at present. Only the double-space rooms have a TV.
4. May I take a television and Hi-Fi to the room? Yes, you can have a radio, T.V. or audiovisual equipments of your own (one single appliance of each type per person), but they may only be listened to wearing earphones or at a volume your roommate or neighbouring resident may not hear.
5. Do the rooms have a microwave oven? Yes, all the rooms have a microwave oven.
6. May I take the RESA furniture I do not intend to use out of the room? You can consult that with the management of the centre.
7. Is there a Wi-Fi connection?No, we have a broadband connection at the residence hall. You can have Internet access in your room.
8. Is there a printer in the computer room? Yes, there is a printer with academic purposes.
9.Is there a canteen in the residence hall? Since all rooms are equipped with their own kitchen, we do not have a canteen service
10. Is there any room cleaning service? For year and intermediate stays, the cleaning of the rooms is an optional service that is not included in the monthly fee and which you may hire separately.
11. Is there a waste collection service? No, residents must take the waste to the containers near the residence hall.
12. Does the residence hall close during the holiday periods? No, it will be open all year long.
13. On which dates and at what times may one enter the residence hall once I’ve been admitted? On any day starting from the day on which the contract period begins, giving due notice to the management. By telephone or by e-mail. Is this possible at weekends? No, admission may take place between Monday and Friday during working hours, from 9 am to 14 pm and from 16 pm to 19 pm.
14. May I stay at the residence hall during the Christmas and Easter holidays? Since the residence hall does not close at any moment in the year, you will be able to remain there during your whole booking period, including holidays.
And during the summer holidays? Yes, but you will have to give notice in the reply coupon, after which we shall inform you about the special rates for those residents who want to extend their stay during the summer months.
15. How are the monthly fees paid? By direct debit payment between the 1 and 5 of each month.
16. May a friend come over to the residence hall to study or eat? Yes, but he/she will always have to be in the resident’s company, and the resident will have to assume responsibility of the visitor’s acts. From 10 pm onwards, all visits will have to be announced at reception. And may relatives or friends stay overnight in my room? Yes, after giving prior notice to the management and comparing the days with the inner rules of procedure.
17. Does the residence hall have any place where I may leave things during the summer holidays? There is a venue that has been especially prepared for depositing those personal belongings of the students who are to remain for the next academic year. The use of this venue may be restricted according to the number of items and the volume occupied.
18. Are there any timetables for entering and leaving? Does the residence hall close at any time? No, residents have their own access key to the residence hall and the room. There are no time limits for entering or leaving
19. Do I have to deliver the key every time I leave the residence hall or at weekends? No, that will not be necessary. You will have the key from the very first day you enter until the day you leave the residence hall, but you may also leave it at reception if you want.
20. Are there university canteens near the residence hall? Yes, we are beside the Aulario, which is where the main canteen of the University is. In addition to this one, each department has its own canteen.
21. Is the residence hall well connected with the bus station and the train station? Yes.
For the bus station, you must take city bus number 24 or 27 in Avda. Tolosa, which is a two-minute walk away.
For the RENFE train station, one must take city bus number 5 or 25 in Avda. Tolosa, which is a two-minute walk away.
22. Are there any sports centres nearby? Yes. There is a municipal one and several private ones 10 minutes away. We shall tell you when you arrive.
23. Are there any supermarkets near the residence hall? There are several 5 minutes away on foot. We shall tell you once you arrive.
24. Where must I go if I need health care? The best thing for you to do is go to the Health care Centre of Ondarreta in Avda. Tolosa, and tell the people there that you have travelled to our city for studying purposes and want to be assigned a doctor in case you encounter any problems. If it is an emergency, you can always go to this very same centre or to the Hospital of San Sebastián in Miramón.
25. Where is the nearest library? The nearest library is in the Law department, which is the adjacent building, but every department, in fact, has its own library and study area. Besides, the residence hall has 13 study rooms.
If you want to go to the Koldo Mitxelena public library, you must take bus 5 or 25 in Avda. Tolosa and get off at the cathedral.
26. I’m a foreigner and have no current account number in Spain. How can I open an account from where I am? When you arrive at the residence hall, we’ll tell you about the nearby banks where you can open a current account.
27.Does the monthly fee include everything? No, it only includes accommodation, computer connection with Internet access, telephone line (incoming calls and internal calls) and VAT. It does not include water, gas and electricity consumption or the hiring of optional services (cleaning of the room and delivery of sheets and towels).
28. Once I leave the residence hall, how long will it take for the guarantee deposit to be returned? The guarantee deposit will be returned two months after the resident has left the room.
29. May I register at the residence hall if I’m not going to study at the País Vasco University? Yes, but priority will be given to students of the University of the Basque Country.
30. Can you guarantee that I will have a place at the residence hall if I fill in the advance registration form and I pay for the registration within the term specified? Place confirmation will be obtained once the list of admissions has been published on this website www.resa.es.
31. If I have made the advance registration application and have been admitted, will I be returned the registration payment if I cancel the application? No, the registration payment will only be returned in the events especified at the registration conditions.
32. What if I should leave the residence hall mid-year and I do not stay for the full 10 months (full academic year)? This will be penalised with the loss of the guarantee deposit.
33. How will I know that I have been admitted? A list of those persons admitted and not admitted will be published in the website of RESA. If you are admitted, you will receive the letter of acceptance, along with the access codes to the users zone of the RESA website, for you to accept the accommodation contract online. In order to definitively formalise your booking, it is essential that you accept the contract online and send the documentation requested in the acceptance letter before the end of August.
34. How does the selection process work? The places will be granted taking into account the following preference criteria and order:
1. Those who were already in a room the previous year.
2. New applicants (advance registered with registration pending and studying 1st, 2nd or 3rd cycle) belonging to a family unit of a General tax base of no more than 24,000 €.
3. The other new applicants who are registering for the first time at the UPV/EHU, who will be placed in order according to the marks of the UPV/EHU university entrance examinations.
4. The remaining new applicants who are already UPV/EHU students and are to be placed in order according to the average mark provided by the Academic Management of the UPV/EHU.
In the event of new students, the conformation of the place assignation will depend on the effective registration at the UPV/EHU.
35. Do I have to include my credit card data in the booking? Yes, this is essential for the purposes of guaranteeing the booking and for covering possible penalties (annulments made with a term of less than 24 hours before the day of entering and damages to the facilities and goods of the residence hall).
