1. Can I choose a room? You may choose between a single and a double room. If you want a specific orientation of the room, you will have to indicate this in the “preferences” section in the Website. It will be allocated by order of advance registration date. Former residents can choose first.
2. Does the residence hall provide us with the sheets and towels? Yes, the residence hall provides residents with a bedspread, set of sheets (including a mattress cover), two blankets and a set of towels (one for the shower, the other for one’s hands) .
3. Is there a telephone, TV and DTTV in the room? All the rooms have a telephone with their own number; there is no TV or DTTV antenna in the room. The residence hall has two television rooms. Likewise available are a video and a DVD, by means of a loaning system.
4. May I take a television and Hi-Fi to the room? Yes, you will have to bring an individual antenna to watch television. When using such devices, one must be very careful, so as not to disturb other residents, especially at night.
5. Do the rooms have a microwave oven? No, and it is not possible to have an electric cooking device for reasons of safety and hygiene. If you need to use the microwave oven, there is one available in the canteen.
6. May I have a refrigerator in my room? No, for reasons of hygiene and health, one must not have food in the rooms.
7. May I take the RESA furniture I do not intend to use out of the room? Yes, as long as you return it when leaving the room. It is very important that everything taken out of the room should be reflected in the inventory made upon your arrival at the residence hall.
8. Is there a Wi-Fi connection? Yes, there are Wi-Fi connections in the rooms.
9. Is there a printer at the residence hall? There is a printer at reception that is connected to the residence network for academic purposes.
10. Is there a canteen in the residence hall? Yes, there is a canteen offering full board service.
Which is the timetable? The timetable of this service from Monday a Friday is as follows: breakfast: 07.30h - 10.30 am, lunch: 1.30 pm - 3.30 pm, dinner: 9.30 pm – 10.45pm. On Saturday, the timetable is as follows: breakfast: 8 am – 10.30 am (on sunday and holidays, the timetable is 9 am - 10.30 am), lunch: 2 pm – 3 pm, dinner: 9.30 pm – 11 pm. The canteen of the residence hall will be closed during the Christmas holidays, and in the first fortnight of September, only breakfast will be served.
11. How does the canteen work? What types of menus are there? There are three services: breakfast, lunch and dinner. The residence hall offers a self-service canteen with renovated furniture and a more varied menu, complete and equally abundant. Salad buffet + first course (2 options) + second course (2 options) + dessert.
12. What does the breakfast consist of? Breakfast is very complete: there is ordinary and skimmed milk, infusions, Nesquik and Cola Cao cocoa, regular and chocolate cereal, toast, fresh bread, biscuits, pastries, butter, margarine, marmalades, various cold cuts, fruits and yoghurts. You may take whatever you want.
13.If one day I miss the bus and arrive later than the canteen hours, does that I cannot have lunch? Nobody is deprived of his/her lunch if there is a justified cause for arriving late. But one must observe the timetables in the interests of an effective functioning of the residence hall.
14.How does the laundry service work? There are two ways in which it works. The residence hall has washing machines and spin dryers that function with cards you may purchase at reception. The machines have a capacity of 7 kg, and automatically regulate the detergent and softener, which means you will not have to bring either of these. If you do not want to wash the clothes yourself, there is a launderette from outside the residence hall, which picks up the clothes once a week and delivers it to you the following day, washed and ironed, and whose washings are paid by weight. You will not have to mark the clothes.
15. Is there any room cleaning service? Yes there is a cleaning service of the common areas. The room is your responsibility but, if you want, you can optionally hire the weekly cleaning service with change of sheets and towels.
16. Does the residence hall close during the holiday periods? The residence hall only closes for the Christmas holidays, remaining open the rest of the year.
17. On which dates and at what times may one enter the residence hall once I’ve been admitted? Once the contract becomes effective, you may enter at any time of the day. It is important that the resident give a few days’ notice before arriving. Should you have to arrive at the residence hall before the first day covered by the contract, you will have to contact the management of the residence hall to make a booking. The price per night will be in proportion with the monthly fee of the new academic year.
Is this possible at weekends? Yes, it works the same as from Monday to Friday.
18. May I stay at the residence hall during the Christmas and Easter holidays? The residence hall closes for Christmas but remains open and maintains its services during Easter.
And during the summer holidays? Yes. The contract ends on 12 / 30 June. Should the resident want to extend his/her stay, this will have to be conveyed as soon as possible.
19. How are the monthly fees paid? By direct debit payment between the 1 and 5 of each month.
20. May a friend come over to the residence hall to study or eat? One may receive visitors between 10 am and 12 pm. Whenever a friend comes by, it will be necessary to inform reception and the resident will have to assume full responsibility for the visitor. Should the visitor want to stay over for lunch, he/she will have to go to reception to purchase a bono for the canteen, which will have to be submitted to the waiters.
21. And may relatives or friends stay overnight in my room? Yes. One may ask for an additional bed upon payment for the stay at reception. It is also possible to rent a room for individual days.
22. Does the residence hall have any place where I may leave things during the summer holidays? No, upon finishing your contract you are to completely remove your things from the residence.
23. Are there any timetables for entering and leaving? The resident is absolutely free to leave and enter the may the residence hall at any time. Decisions to enter to enter or leave for holidays, as well as absences exceeding 24 hours, will have to be reported beforehand to the manager.
24. Do I have to deliver the key every time I leave the residence hall or at weekends? No. Each resident will be given his her room key on the day of arrival. He/she will be responsible for the key until the end of his period of stay, and it may not be left at reception at any time.
25. Are there university canteens near the residence hall? The closets university canteen is that of the residence hall itself. There are also university canteens at the campus. The closest one is in the campus of Zapateira (+/- 4.5kms).
26. Is the residence hall well connected with the bus station and the train station? Yes, by means of our own transport services, in those trips to Plaza Pontevedra. (See residence hall transport timetable).
27. How does the transport service work? The residence hall has a bus included in the price, taking residents to the university campuses, to the city, and to the train and bus stations, in accordance with the timetable, which you may consult at this link (valid until June 2012). This timetable may undergo adjustments throughout the year, but these are usually of a minor nature and made with the purpose of improving the service; trips are never withdrawn.
28. When travelling on the residence hall bus, am I only able to get off at the stops indicated on the schedule? No, the bus on the way down may stop, upon indication given to the driver, at any urban stop.
29. Is there any other transport service than the residence hall bus? Yes, there is a public service, the number 24, which is barely over 1 km from the residence hall.
30. Are there any sports centres nearby? The residence hall has a gym and some sports tracks for the enjoyment of all residents. The nearest external sports centre lies within the facilities of the university, in the Elviña campus, which is an approximate 5 km away.
31. Are there any supermarkets near the residence hall? There is a Eroski supermarket two km away from the residence hall.
32. Where must I go if I need health care? Upon entering the residence hall, you will be given an information leaflet with different addresses and telephone numbers to use depending on whether you belong to the Social Security or a private regime.
33. Where is the nearest library? The residence hall also has two larges halls for studying, in which absolute silence is mandatory. It also has especially arranged tables for those who want to work on group projects and a small hall per storey for the same purpose.
34. I’m a foreigner and have no current account number in Spain. How can I open an account from where I am? Upon your arrival in Spain, it is as simple a matter as taking a supporting official document and asking for a current account to be opened.
35.How does the selection process work? It is absolutely essential to have formalised the established requirements to be admitted to the residence hall. The allocation of places will be done in consideration of the date of reception of the registration payment document. Having brothers living in the residence hall will also be taken into account.
36. Once I leave the residence hall, how long will it take for the guarentee deposit to be returned? An approximate two months after the end of the contract. The contract ends on 30 June and the bond will be returned within the first working days of September.
37. Can you guarantee that I will have a place at the residence hall if I fill in the advance resgistration form and I pay for the registration within the term specified? No term is given; it is until the end of vacant places, so the sooner you book the better, the list of people admitted will be published after the 20 July. If the residence hall is unable to allocate the place applied for due to a lack of available rooms, you will be returned the registration fee.
38. If I have made the advance registration application and have been admitted, will I be returned the registration fee if I cancel the application? The registration fee will be returned in the event of the applicant has not been accepted for the career intended, or has not passed the university access tests. This refund will require presenting supporting documentary evidence.
39. What if I should leave the residence hall mid-year and I do not stay for the full 9 months? Our contract encompasses a 9-month period. If the resident abandons the residence hall before, this will be regarded as a violation of contract, whereupon the bond will be penalised and the stay regularised.
40. How will I know that I have been admitted? A list of those persons admitted and not admitted will be published in the website of RESA. If you are admitted, you will receive the letter of acceptance after the 22 July, along with the access codes to the users zone of the RESA website, for you to accept the accommodation contract online. In order to definitively formalise your booking, it is essential that you accept the contract online and send the documentation requested in the acceptance letter before the end of August.
41. Do we have to include our credit card data in the daily/summer bookings ? Yes, this is essential for the purposes of guaranteeing the booking and for covering possible penalties (annulments made with a term of less than 24 hours before the day of entering and damages to the facilities and goods of the residence hall).
